Meet my Godparents!

So here's the thing.  Mommy and Daddy go to a Presbyterian church called Village.  Mommy grew up going to a Presbyterian church, but Daddy grew up going to a Catholic church.  After they got married, they went to lots of different churches, and when they lived in Atlanta they found an Episcopalian church that they really liked.  The services were a lot like the Catholic church, but girls got to be preachers and they were less strict, which Mommy liked.

When Mommy and Daddy moved back to Kansas City, they went to lots of Episcopalian churches, but they couldn't find one quite as good as the one they left in Atlanta.  They ended up trying Village Presbyterian because it's really close to where we live, and the pastor from Mommy's church growing up, Grace Covenant, was there helping out (even though he was supposed to be retired!).  They tried it, and they loved it!  They have really fun stuff to do for families and kids, which was important to Mommy and Daddy.  They decided to join even though it does not have very many of the Catholic traditions that Daddy was used to.

But, now that I'm born, one Catholic tradition Mommy and Daddy have decided to keep is choosing Godparents for me.

Meet Laura, my Godmother!
Meeting my Godmother for the first time when she came to visit last weekend.
I think I'm going to like her a lot!
Laura also grew up at Grace Covenant with Mommy, so they've known each other for a very long time!  Mommy, Laura, and their friends Sara and Leah were all in the youth group together in middle school and high school and are still very close, even though they've all moved away!  Laura lives in Portland.  She's getting married next year, so I will get to go visit!  Can't wait!  Laura also went to high school with Daddy.  Mommy says she's the best kind of friend a person could have.  She is caring, compassionate, and a very loyal friend.  No matter how far apart they've been since they graduated from high school and left home, her friendship with Mommy and Daddy has always been exactly the same.  Plus, she knows how to be silly and have fun!

Meet Shane, my Godfather!

Shane being silly and posing with me during my nap!  Mommy forgot to take a picture while he was holding me... silly Mommy!
Shane grew up at Grace Covenant, too, and lived right down the street from Mommy growing up.  His mommy is very close friends with my Nana!  Growing up, Shane and his brothers were sort of like brothers to Mommy and my aunties Hilary and Merf.  Shane was also a really close friend of Daddy's growing up.  They knew each other from boy scouts and Grace Covenant youth group, and Shane even got to be a groomsman for Daddy at their wedding.  Shane also lives in Portland now.  Mommy and Daddy say he can be very silly and I will have lots of fun with him, but he is also very sweet and genuine.

I can't wait to get to know them both better!  Mommy and Daddy seem to like them a lot, so I'm sure I will, too!
